Village Committee
The village is run by the village committee, a council of villagers
in charge of the main functions of the village. The village committee is made up primarily of
women as is part of the culture and the men folk are often away from the village
working as porters and guides.
It was the village committee who welcomed us to Phortse showering us with presents of silk
scarves and we worked with the committee throughout our project.
